Television is a bad influence on children
In view of
related study in psychological effect of television in youngster, may I share this testimony to discourage parents to limit their children exposure in the idiot box.
According to a study, children who spend more
time in television create a slight difference in behavior and personal growth compare
to those children who minimally watch the television whether attended
and unattended by guardians.
We shall
admit that television is one of the tri-media—comprises of radio, television and
print—which highly influence not just the older people, but also children
specifically. Television has advantages
and disadvantages to the younger viewer for which later I will unveil.
Nowadays,
parents are very confident and lax on leaving their children lone on the
television even if the movie or tv show is inappropriate to watch. Even in the lightest part of the show, children
can easily imitate good and bad show in a television show.
The advantages
of television through media broadcasting can be discussed in the succeeding
explanations: children mostly imitate
their educational show or presentation which contribute to the enhancement of
their cognitive skills, language and interaction; children is also motivated to learn on their favorite shows;
and children learn to be consciously inclined to news reports and its contribution to the awareness in current events.
The disadvantages: children usually views some violent, sexual, lewd and dreadful show that corrupt their personal and emotional growth. Some juvenile have become exposed to premarital
sex and other early vices just because their idol drinks and smokes in the
television. In addition, experts say
that mere exposure in a television can have a psychological effect—either good or bad effect—to children.
Thus, most countries
are now limiting broadcasting of violence and pornographic materials in movies, television and periodicals through
strict implementation and proper regulation of related law and imposition of penalty to those who will be found liable or guilty
for such violation in media.

Typhoon Maring and Habagat 2013
In the Philippines, the southwest monsoon nowadays is very ferocious. Last year alone, we did not expect
the southwest monsoon to create a page—if not a book—in the history of
the Philippines. The habagat or the southwest monsoon is an ordinary
rainfall that is alternately happening after hanging amihan every
semester. Habagat happens once a year but its scope is upto six months.
Both amihan and habagat are ordinary winds that sometimes associated
with heavy rainfall and thunder.
But
last year, the perception of the filipinos to habagat changed. As it
battered almost entire Luzon, habagat plummeted in parts of Luzon that
left Central Luzon submerged and the ricefields inundated with tons of
water. Now, habagat can be compared to a typhoon in terms of volume of water
it drops.
Thousands
of people in ballpark figure were affected by the typhoon since it
started to pummel the metropolis and the suburban places on Sunday,
August 18, 2013. Thus, the following morning, MalacaƱang ordered the
suspension of classes in all private and public schools including work
in the government in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Meanwhile,
Manila City Hall was also one of the casualty of flooding. According to
Mayor Erap Estrada, he should be given at least six months to address
the flooding problem of the City Hall, other establishments and areas
affected by perennial flooding problem in the city.
This
event is the 3rd worst rainfall ever experienced since Ondoy and second
from habagat in August 2012.The places in Manila which were greatly
affected by the storm: Recto, United Nations Ave, Recto Ave., T.M. Kalaw
and the stretch of Maria Clara near Dimasalang and places in other parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces such as the City of
Valenzuela, Province of Meycauayan, Marilao and Bocaue which are the
consistent recipient of flood year after year. That's why during the
State of the Nation Address of the President, he stated the building of
an underground draining system in Blumentritt to heavily drain the flood
—out of the low lying areas in Metro Manila—to the sea.
However,
in the morning of August 20, 2013, typhoon continued to intensify more
severely that finally lead to another round of cancellation of classes
and suspension of government work. On this day, many families were
forcefully evacuated and many houses were already submerged by the
fierce and uninterrupted effect of combine forces of Habagat and typhoon
Maring.
Even
the toughest road at Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) was no match to the strength of habagat and Maring. Almost all Cities in Metro
Manila had declared state of calamity to mete out funding of the
affected families, crops and livelihood.
According to NDRRMC, the onslaught of habagat and Maring affected 125, 000 people in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Cavite was listed as the province which was greatly affected by the attacked of Typhoon Maring and Habagat as per NDRRMCs estimation of rainfall thereat.
As of Sunday evening, 8 casualties and thousands of injured were recorded.
In totality, Typhoon Maring left a million of people devastated before it left the country at about 2pm on Wednesday, Augusts 21, 2013.
Coconut Tree: The Tree Of Life
Have you ever wondered why coconut tree is called the tree of life? It is indeed a tree of life. From its roots up to the tip of its palm, coconut is very indispensable. Not only provides livelihood, food, economic use etc., it also promotes healthy living to everybody.
Its name was derived from a Portuguese word meaning cocos that literally translates as "grinning" (as of face) which originally seen from the tree dots in its shell. The scientific name of coconut tree is Cocos nucifera.
Coconut trees are very common to tropical countries. So, the Philippines is among the countries who are blessed with this wander tree.
The coconut water has proven medication for urinary tract infection, stomach discomfort, anti-ageing benefits, memory loss, etc. In addition, it is loaded with potassium, electrolytes and other nutrients needed in proper heart beat, muscle movement, and hydrating our body.
Believed to be fifteen times better than the imported commercialized energy drink—Gatorade—available in the market, coconut has become so demanding in the market today. Celebrities here and abroad have already invested and capitalized on the production and marketing of the products of this wander tree.
In addition, I have also proven the market of the coconut juice when I once assayed to endeavor to market and peddle its juice around my office and the result was very affirmative. It has indeed a big market to the senior ones. By this new found interest and cravings, they even convinced me to regularly supply them with this coconut water.
Moreover, the coconut meat is also used in other culinary ingredients such as oil, rice cake, salads and other beauty products.
Also, the coconut shell is used as charcoal after burning it which is also a source of (cheapest) energy.
The coconut husk is also one of the important part of the tree. Aside from being the source of a household tool like bunot, in this section of the tree, you can derive a coir. A coir or the coconut fiber is also used in matting, sacks, and rope. Fishermen depends on the durability of the rope because of its resistance against water. Fishermen weave net using this coir.
The trunk of the tree is also used in making coco lumber that is used as scaffolding in construction and other building purposes.
So, you will now be convinced by this amazing boon of the coconut tree—not only its contribution economically but in health aspect of our daily living.
We shall value the importance of this tree just the way we value its palms down to its roots for our lives.
