AWOL or Absence Without Official Leave

This blog intends to enlighten concerned employees of avoiding this kind of misconduct in office.

AWOL or Absence Without Official Leave is not only limited to unpermitted/unapproved absence; denied leave; failure to report for duty as duly instructed; failure to provide sufficient medical documentation or excuses and the like. AWOL is also applicable to (dereliction) absence in designated workplace even if you're in the agency's premise.

The underlying reason why a personnel is charged with AWOL is the nexus between absence and undermanned workforce that leads to inefficient output and productivity of the agency as a whole.

In public service, AWOL can also be categorized under betrayal of public trust which in most cases is an impeachable offense for the impeachable officer of the country. Betrayal of public trust is included in the Philippine Constitution and it is indeed an impeachable offense as proven in the impeachment of former Justice Secretary Renato Corona in 2012.
